Java
Java is the first volume from the gallery's edition book series, Ôde à l'Indonésie.
Java, a volcanic island of Indonesia lying between Sumatra and Bali, is the most populous in the world. Once the center of powerful Hindu-Buddhist empires, then the greatest Islamic sultanates, and the core of the colonial Dutch East Indies, much of the country's history took place on this island, home to sixty percent of Indonesia's population. This remarkable island encompasses no less than 120 active volcanoes, with a fascinating blend of diverse religious beliefs, ethnicities, and cultures, documented here in this photo book through the lens of French photographer Marius Moragues.
